Tablets have become the new age craze with apple iPad being a runaway success story. This has inspired many companies to launch their own tablet devices and some of these companies have started to offer some innovation in the form factor as well. Samsung has been quite bullish about the tablet segment and had launched Samsung Galaxy Tab. Unlike the 10 inch Apple iPad, this one had a 7 inch screen but it was not able to garner the same kind of response that Apple had received.

So, now Samsung is all set to try its hand again, this time with an 8.9 inch version of this tablet. According to Samsung, this new tablet will be aimed at the ‘mobile professional’. Though the screen size of this tablet device is 8.9-inch screen, it offers the same 1280 x 800 resolution as the 10.1-inch model. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 measures 9.1 x 6.2 x 0.34 inches (230.9 x 157.8 x 8.6mm), making it one of the thinnest tablets around. As a matter of fact, Samsung Galaxy Tab is even thinner than Apple iPad, which measures 8.8mm and is even lighter than the same.

Powered by a 1GHz dual core processor, Samsung Galaxy tablet 8.9 will run on Google's tablet-optimized operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The device will be available with three different storage options, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Other notable features in the device include WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and USB 2.0. This new tablet too comes with dual camera, while the rear camera is 3 megapixels with flash while the front is 2 mega pixel cameras. Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 inch comes with a 600 mAh battery.

The new tablet, which is expected to be available by June, will be supported for Flash 10.2. It will also come pre-loaded with Samsung's Readers Hub and Music Hub, which will offer users of this tablet access to millions of books, newspapers, magazines and songs.

Another interesting adds on in this Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 inch is that it comes with a customized Honeycomb UI. Most of the other Honeycomb tablets that are running on Android 3.0 have pretty cliché UI with no real add-ons. However, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 inch UI features a home screen with the usual widgets and application icons just like the other vanilla Android devices and additionally, has developed its own custom widgets as well as an app switcher that provides live previews of apps that are running in the background.
